Marjoram seeks to showcase true pace in second half of the V8 UTE season

11 Sep 2014

After a season-best round result of seventh place overall at Townsville, XFORCE Brand Ambassador and Erebus Academy driver Adam Marjoram is feeling confident that he will be able to demonstrate the true pace of his Erebus Motorsport ute this weekend at Sandown Raceway.

Having only raced at the 3.1 km-long Sandown track once, Marjoram is keen to return to racing for round five of the V8 Ute Racing Series this weekend.

“My first time racing at Sandown was last year in the V8 Utes, and even though I unfortunately had a DNF in one of the races, we were pretty strong over the course of the weekend, and I got the hang of the track pretty quickly,” said Marjoram.

“As the front and back straights are so long, a lot of time can be gained or lost in those sections of the track, so corner exits onto the straights are crucial, and that’s where we’ll be trying to maximise our performance.

“It’s a great, challenging circuit where commitment and maximising speed onto the straights reward you greatly.”

Currently 13th in the Series standings, Marjoram is mindful that his overall Series placing is not indicative of the team’s true pace, and he will be aiming to maintain his upwards trend in results in the remaining four rounds of the year.

“We’ve learnt a lot over this whole year about how to get the most out of the car and my driving, but unfortunately I don’t think my 13th position in the Series reflects our pace this year due to my DNF in race one of round one,” he explained.

“We’ve also had a little bit of bad luck in some races, getting caught up in other people’s incidents and being shuffled backwards.

“But we’re making improvements all the time, and hopefully over the rest of the season we can deliver some strong results, and have an exciting last four rounds of the year.”

A ride day and two days of testing have provided recent opportunities for the youngster to get back behind the wheel of the #5 Auto One ute, and shake off any cobwebs from the 10-week gap between the Townsville and Sandown Raceway events.

“It was pretty good to be able to get two solid days of testing in a row last week with Erebus Motorsport,” said Marjoram.

“Both of the days were really hectic but very productive, and it came at a good time after the long break between rounds.

“We also held a ride day a few weeks ago at Sydney Motorsport Park which was a good chance to get back in the car while giving Auto One guests and Betty a taste for the ute!”

Marjoram, who has rapidly developed this year and amassed more points at each round than the previous round as the season has progressed, is targeting a top five finish at Sandown.

“We’ve advanced a lot this year so hopefully everything I’ve learnt so far, I can apply to Sandown this weekend, and improve on my performance from last year,” he said.

“We finished pretty strongly in seventh overall in the round at Townsville, so we want to keep building on that, so hopefully we can crack at top five finish at Sandown – that would be a dream weekend!

Round five of the V8 Ute Racing Series begins with Practice 1 at 10:05am (AEST) on Friday.
